Steps for Earning Your ABR® Designation
Introduction
The Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR®) designation is a prestigious credential for real estate professionals who specialize in representing buyers. To earn this designation, you must meet a series of rigorous benchmarks that ensure a high standard of excellence. You must complete these steps within three years of taking the ABR® Designation Course.
Benchmark 1: ABR® Designation Course
The journey begins with the ABR® Designation Course, a comprehensive two-day program.
Benchmark 2: Additional Education
In addition to the ABR® Designation Course, you must complete one qualifying elective course. These courses can be taken online or in-person and may count towards other designations or certifications.
Elective Courses:
- At Home With Diversity® (AHWD) Certification Course
- e-PRO® Certification Course
- Military Relocation Professional (MRP) Certification Course
- Resort and Second-Home Property Specialist (RSPS) Certification Course
- Seniors Real Estate Specialist® (SRES®) Designation Course
- Real Estate Negotiation Expert (RENE) Certification Course
- Seller Representative Specialist (SRS) Designation Course
Benchmark 3: Confirmed Transactions
You must finalize five transactions solely as a buyer’s representative, with no dual agency involved. This can include up to two lease transactions. There is no specific time frame for completing these transactions.
Benchmark 4: Active Status
To maintain your designation, you must remain an active member in good standing with the Center for REALTOR® Development (CRD) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). The first year of ABR® membership is included with the ABR® Designation Course. The second year is prorated, and subsequent years cost $110 annually.
